The Red Hat Society Pledge
I do solemnly swear on my hat that I will do my best to uphold the spirit of the Red Hat Society.
I will greet middle age with verve, humor and style. I will take my silliness seriously as it is the comic relief of my life.
In the Spirit of Sisterhood and Friendship, I join with my Red Hat and Pink Hat sisters as we go for the gusto together. Beneath our frivolity we share a bond of affection, common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for life and living.
I promise to regularly practice having fun and to do the things I have waited to do.
I promise to openly and knowingly fraternize with other Red Hatters.
This I pledge, in the spirit of the Red Hat Society, as envisioned by the Exalted Queen Mother, Sue Ellen Cooper .

and our dreams.
Let us never break the chain of friends!
When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me
and I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells and run my stick along the public railings and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain and pick the flowers in other peoples' gardens and learn to spit.
...... maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised when suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Sorry, just had to add this one. It's the only time I've ever seen my Mom in a hat outside the garden or cotton field.

We are born and bred, southern belles who are passionate about having fun and enjoying life. The Sassy Sirens joined the Red Hat Society in 2003 and we have seen many changes over the past 5 years but one thing has remained the same and that is our zest for life and our commitement to friends and family. We made a pledge to greet middle age with verve, humor and style. We hope you like our little 'cyber place' and that you come back often for new pics and anouncements.

Jenny Joseph was born in 1932 in Birmingham, England and was first published by John Lehmann in the 1950s. Joseph has published numerous collections of poetry and fiction. In 1996 Jenny Joseph was honored in a national poll as the author of the U.K.'s "most popular post-war poem", "Warning", which begins: "When I Am An Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple." Written in 1961, it was included in "Rose In the Afternoon" (J M Dent, 1974). It then appeared in Philip Larkin's "Oxford Book of 20th Century English Verse". Jenny Joseph lives in Gloucestershire, England.

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish, and my paint job is getting a little dull ... But that's not the worst of it.My headlights are out of focus, and it's especially hard to see things up close.My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things, even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.But here's the worst of it --"Almost every time I sneeze, cough or laugh.... either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!
